Super Chargers
Super Chargers literally force-feed an engine its air/fuel mixture. The engine via its accessory belt system drives an air pump known as the “blower” that pumps air into the combustion chamber along with extra fuel. This extra volume of air raises internal engine compression & generates quite a bit of power. As a rule of thumb, at 5 psi of boost pressure, one can expect about a 40% increase in peak engine power. Super charging today’s BMW is no simple matter. Companies selling such systems need to have an in depth understanding of BMW engine management systems in order to properly meter the correct ratio of fuel. Otherwise you’ll be living with an emissions nightmare and a poorly running engine that’s not long for this world.
